I Need to Talk to Spiritual White Women about White Supremacy
About two months ago, following the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, I was driven to write what I thought would be a regular newsletter to my small but engaged community (of largely white spiritual women) on white supremacy, racism, spirituality and the complicity of entrepreneurs who do not speak up on issues of social justice.

Conspirituality 22: Racism & Fraud in New Age Publishing
Author and publisher Rebekah Borucki joins the Conspirituality team as our first co-host for this episode. She’s got a story to tell: the culture of her publisher, Hay House, was so resistant to taking a position on the racist attitudes of some of their leading cash-cow authors that she ditched her contract and her job with the company as a diversity mentor.

What is the difference between cultural appropriation & cultural appreciation.
So much depends on the intent, awareness and, most importantly, the impact behind connecting to and partaking in another culture. For example, did you know that in India, the source culture of yoga, the term yogi is a highly aspired to state of being and not as easily thrown around as in the West. I use it to refer to people who identify this way, but I speak of myself as a devoted student of yoga.

Whiteness on the Couch
The couch in my therapy office is occupied mostly by white people. Anxious white people and depressed white people. Obsessive white people and compulsive white people. White people who hurt people and white people who hurt themselves. White people who eat too much, drink too much, work too much, shop too much. White people who are bored, envious, guilty, numb. Racist white people and antiracist white people. White people who look across the room and see a white therapist listening. We talk about everything. Except being white...

Cultural Appropriation in the Wellness Field
Cultural appropriation is a form of modern-day colonization and oppression that directly harms BIPOC. It causes confusion for BIPOC seeking to learn about their culture and identities. And, it causes biological harm because BIPOC can no longer connect with traditional practices that help them regulate their nervous systems, reduce inflammation, and maintain holistic health.

A Letter To All White Yoga Teachers
Dear White yoga teacher, You may love yoga. Maybe yoga has even saved your life or healed your soul. Perhaps you may go to yoga class to leave feeling relaxed, as well as to deal with daily anxieties you face. Maybe as a yoga teacher or practitioner, you aim to create a safe or comfortable space (in person or online) for all your students and promote a calming environment. This is all real, profound and powerful.

A Frenzy in the Field
There is frenzy in the field. Over the last two weeks, my inbox has been full of requests to talk about white privilege, white supremacy and racism. My inbox has been full of requests to dismantle racism in three hour increments through workshops. There is urgency in all of the messages that are making their way into my inbox and here is what I want the white folks who are contacting me to know.

Fight. Win. Love. Support. (Community Care)
Focus on healing in movement spaces is often reserved for times of crisis — or is reduced to individual consumerist self-care like a glass of wine and a pedicure. In our leadership development, community cultivation, and organizing models, focusing on resilient, integrated, whole selves is considered extra — a fun and indulgent add-on to the “real work of organizing.”

Self-care isn't enough. We need community care to thrive.
Unlike self-care, community care does not place the onus of compassion on a single individual. In a phone interview with Mashable, Valerio defined community care as "People committed to leveraging their privilege to be there for one another in various ways." Yet this form of care isn't entirely selfless, at least not in the long run. "They (the care providers) know that when they will also need care in the future, others will be there for them," Valerio says.
